About REBA

The Real Estate Bar Association for Massachusetts, REBA is a state-wide bar association of nearly 3000 lawyer members and non-lawyer subscribers sharing a 150-year tradition of professionalism and excellence advancing the practice of real estate law. Our members represent lenders, buyers, sellers, owners, landlords and tenants in every real estate practice area and specialty including resolving title issues and title insurance, commercial leasing, transactional matters for both residential and commercial property, zoning, permitting and land use, alternative dispute resolution and litigation.

REBA’s commitment is keeping members current on case law developments and state and federal legislation. Responding to member concerns, REBA supports, opposes and initiates legislation on Beacon Hill. REBA also vigorously monitors, addresses and seeks to eliminate the unauthorized practice of law in Massachusetts.

REBA’s standing committees draft and promulgate standards and useful forms which address ethical and practical problems and resolve title issues. Our popular mentoring program offers informal advice to any member with a question.

REBA hosts educational seminars on matters of interest such as revisions in RESPA regulations, zoning, permitting and environmental issues, malpractice avoidance, foreclosure and condominium law.

Every member receives REBA’s Handbook of Standards and Forms, a complete set of title, ethical and practice standards and forms which is updated at no charge regularly. In addition, REBA maintains a Guide to the Registries of Deeds, including periodic updates, for every county in the state. REBA’S website, www.massrelaw.org, is a popular daily resource for members.

Member interests and concerns focus the Board’s activities and direction. The Board, consisting of 26 members and committee chairs, meets monthly. In addition to standards and forms, the Board’s standing and ad hoc committees respond to registry of deeds concerns, technology matters and other member issues.

Membership in REBA demonstrates a lawyer’s dedication to the highest standards of the profession. The REBA leadership and staff are committed to supporting that dedication with the strongest available service.
